Anti-emo violence breaks out in Mexico
Riot police have been forced to take to the streets in many of Mexico’s cities to protect emo kids from an anti-emo rampage.
A series of attacks on teenagers with dyed hair and eye makeup began earlier this month when several hundred people went on an emo-beating rampage in Querétaro, north of Mexico City.
The violent attacks are being partially blamed on a live rant by Mexican TV personality Kristoff who recently called emo ‘fucking bullshit’.
Kristoff subsequently called for an end to the violence but it is thought he make take the blame if the government blames his television network for the trouble.
On March 7 around 800 young people in the city of Querataro amassed against emos in the city resulting in many violent attacks, and a week later a similar incident occurred in Mexico City.
Emos in both cities responded to the attacks by marching peacefully through the center of the cities. Meanwhile, Chile is also seeing a wave of violence against emo, with TV station Chilevision showing an attack on a group of emo kids by skinheads.
We’ve already seen the consequences of what hate crimes can do to people who are attacked for wearing certain clothes or listening to certain music or belonging to a certain culture. Are we going to end up with another Sophie Lancaster?

Wait…what? Mexico has emo kids?
All though I may not agree with some of the fundamental “acts” that the so called “emo” social clique part in or encourage ( An example being, in something which was considered “The worst fan fiction ever” where a young person constantly cut themselves to the likes of “My Chemical Romance” and “Panic! At The Disco” because the person they liked, didn’t return that affection.) acts like this are unacceptable.
It wont be long now before such actions turn into another Sophie Lancaster case.
For all we know, it could have happened allready.
